Becoming a Suicide Prevention Volunteer

There are many organizations that are doing incredible things in terms of suicide prevention. Most of these great organizations offer many different ways in which you can volunteer your time. Feel free to search through as many as you like until you find the one that is right for you and begin your journey to becoming a volunteer today.

CALM: Volunteer Programme is focused on raising awareness and supporting CALM. Our phone and chat services are run by trained, paid professionals. We’re unable to provide volunteer placements in any kind of mental health support roles.

CHILDLINE: Becoming a Childline volunteer means being there when a child needs you the most. Childline helps children and young people 24 hours a day, every day of the year. We also have an email counselling role.

LEEDS NIGHTLINE:  Volunteers need to be enthusiastic, reliable and committed to Nightline. They must also understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality and anonymity within the service at all times - what happens in Nightline, stays in Nightline!

THE MIX: When you volunteer at The Mix you can take part in online and offline volunteering that is exciting, challenging and rewarding. Volunteers with The Mix can gain CV skills and get the chance to meet other friendly, interesting people.

LSLCS  is strongly committed to volunteering and volunteers are an essential part of our service. We aim to provide people with a positive, supportive and nurturing experience of work, with plenty of training and development.

PAPYRUS believes that suicide is everybody’s business and only by engaging everyone can a community become truly suicide safer.

CRISIS TEXT LINE: Volunteers answer texts from people in crisis utilizing active listening, collaborative problem solving, and safety planning. We ask our Crisis Volunteers to commit to between 2-4 hours per week and complete a total of 200 hours.
